Basic information of Dengue:

Agent: it is a virus being spread by mosquito.

Vector: Ades Egypti is mosquito which has preference to bite in day time.

Symptoms: dengue fever takes 3 to 7 days to develop after mosquito bite. Symptoms start with high grade fever, muscle pains, pain behind eye ball and rashes. People have feeling of nausea and extreme exhaustion.

Investigations:

Platelet counts remain normal for around first 1 to 2 days of fever and then start decreasing. Sometimes it may go up to 10000. Dengue ns 1 is positive from first day of fever. Dengue IGM takes 4 days to become positive. Dengue PCR is positive throughout illness.

Treatment:

Science doesn’t have specific treatment for dengue till date. Effect of dengue fever starts subsiding in 8 days, then platelet counts starts increasing by itself. Experimental medicines like papaya leaf have failed to show any benefit. Proper hydration and avoiding non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can help.
